Scottish Theme Kicks Off Gosford City Markets

It will be a very Scottish theme when the Gosford City Markets return to Kibble Park on Saturday 11th February 2012.

The Gosford City Markets combines events with the Central Coast Highland Dancing Group to transform Kibble Park into “McKibble Park and all things Scottish” for the day

The “McKibble Park” event commences at 8am with markets stalls, entertainment on the William St Mall stage and the Central Coast Highland Dancing Titles on the main stage.   The titles are a key event for Highland Dancers from all over Australia and is the first major event on the competitive calendar.  Since its inception in 2008, dancers from all over NSW and interstate have challenged the Central Coast’s best in a bid to take the regional title.

Paul Brasch, Manager of GBID comments:

“The McKibble Park event is a great way to kick off the new year and we are delighted to merge events with the Central Coast Highland Dancing Group.

We will have entertainment on both stages, market stalls, Scottish merchandise, food and bag pipes  aplenty !   This will be a great way to spend a Saturday morning.  The markets are not overly crowded and have plenty of car parking nearby.  Kibble Park Gosford has full wheelchair access as well.

The wonderful playground in Kibble Park keeps the ‘little market goers’ entertained.  On Saturday 11th Febriuary, we will have a a Haggis Throwing competiton, Caber Toss and a Kilted Dash for the kids.  The atmosphere will be amazing”.

.

The Gosford City Markets are a partnership of GBID and Gosford City Rotary.  This month we will welcome new arts and produce stalls including breads & pastry treats, spices, wines, honey, fresh fruit and vegetables as well as arts, crafts, homewares and much, much more.  .

Kibble Park is located in Gosford’s CBD off Henry Parry Drive, with 650 FREE parking available at the nearby Gosford Town Centre  or the Imperial Shopping Centre carpark, free on Saturday mornings.

Active Seniors Program In Kibble Park

Active Seniors Program in Kibble Park

Gosford City Council will be conducting an Active Seniors Program during the month of February in Kibble Park commencing Wednesday 1 February 2012.

The program aims to provide social and recreational activities in a safe environment and is designed to enable older people to have fun, make new friends and promote health and wellbeing.

Gosford City Council’s Manager of Community Development, Ms. Sue Verhoek says that staying active is vital for good physical health and wellbeing – no matter what your age.

“The activities are focused on those aged over 50 but they’re open to all members of the community.

“We’ve put together a number of fun activities to try – poi twirling, yoga, qigong, and drumming.

“All the activities will be conducted in Kibble Park and are free to attend,” said Ms. Verhoek.

 The program is as follows:

Yoga – Wednesdays starting 1 February 9am – 10am. Yoga is about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits.

Poise – Poi twirling workshops every Wednesday starting 1 February from 10am – 11.30am. These fun, low impact poi twirling workshops are great for increasing circulation and balancing out the body.

Qigong – Fridays starting 3 February from 9.30am – 10.30am. The practice combines exercises, postures, breathing techniques and meditation to assist the flow of energy through the body, restoring balance and enhancing vitality.

Drumming for Seniors – Monday 13, 20 and 27 February from 9am – 10am.  From the raising of your arms and hands, to the measure of your breath and the rhythmic swaying of your body, drumming offers a full mind, body and soulful experience.

Registrations are preferred but drop in participants are very welcome.

To book your place or for more information about the program call Council’s Central Coast HACC Development Officer, Ms Jodi Livesley on 4325 8222.
